Merseyside Christian Youth Camps established in 1945 (a facility of Tyn-y-Nant Christian Centre) has been at its present site in Abererch, Gwynedd for 45 years.

This year we expect over 500 young people plus leaders to be attending Camp. There is more than a 10% increase of campers on last year’s figures; this year with private hire mostly from church groups the site has generated nearly £13,000 in income. However, the girl’s sleeping accommodation, toilets and showers are in a poor state of repair and woefully inadequate for the 21st century hence the need to rebuild.

So, following on from the successful refurbishment of the kitchen, we have secured planning permission for another important development for the site. God willing, in October 2009 we will be demolishing most of the girl’s accommodation and putting in infrastructure including larger gas and water mains to allow us to service en-suite and centrally heated accommodation for the girls and female leaders ready for Junior Camp 2010 and the summer camping season.

The complete cost of this work will be £800,000. Ideally, we would like to complete this project in one season depending on the Lord’s guidance and provision in this. Stage 1 would ensure completion of the infrastructure and two accommodation blocks for 46 at a cost of £500,000 while stage 2 would see another two accommodation blocks completed for a further 44 at an additional cost of £300,000. At present we have accommodation for 64 on the girl’s site. This new accommodation will ensure superb facilities for ninety.

At the end of June 2009 we had £182,500 secured or promised for this work.

For the shortfall we will be approaching grant making bodies and will continue to receive gifts from our supporters so we would like you to bring our needs to members of the church who may want to give.
